CWLC Winter Party 2019

Once again, our gracious Winter Party host was Honorary Member, Ruth Hilland. Ruth and the staff at Amica Aspen Woods provide a most welcoming venue and delicious meal for our Club’s Winter Party.

Needless to say, there are a few creative behind-the-scene CWLC elves who add extra pizazz through tablescapes and entertainment.

This was a perfect time to have two new members introduced by their friends. What “resumés!” To top everything off, we had a most special performer, opera singer Melissa Jackson (Calgary Opera, Cowtown Opera and more.) Singing seasonal songs, her voice carried beyond our room and into the foyer, to the delight of Amica residents and staff, as well as ourselves.

For the New Year, it’s our members that will continue to make the Calgary Women’s Literary Club “sing.” We resume March 3rd.

Happy New Year!

CWLC’s Winter Party 2018

Another Celebration! In December, we returned to Amica to enjoy our annual Winter Party. CWLC former president Ruth Hilland opened the meeting with a few poignant words of welcome. She reflected on the grand tradition and history of our club.  A selection of readings was provided by three fun-loving ladies, Sandra, Shawna and Moorea who brought the audience to their feet! Encores ensued. Cathy presented each club member with a Getting To Know You booklet, a collection of member profiles compiled by an energetic Executive, driven by the desire to know each other more fully. The club is taking a hiatus, with no formal meetings until the spring. We will reconvene on March 5, 2019 to continue an exploration of the Role of Humor, Satire and Irony in Literature.

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful Winter Party! Ruth was the perfect hostess, Cecilia the social coordinator,  Anne directed our readers’ theatre of A Child’s Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas and our flash mob choir. There are many other “elves” who contributed greatly to the success of the afternoon. Thanks, everyone! Enjoy the show!
