What an interesting (if depressing) article. I would suggest that further research might be in order: if we look into how many males read regularly compared with females (and if book clubs are anything to go by, I suspect the number of females would be greater) the results might show that we are being short-changed even more. I guess the real question now is, how can we change this? I wonder how many people regard a male author as practicing a legitimate profession while a female author is just a housewife with an interesting hobby. Thanks to Anita for starting the conversation.
